This paper describes work at the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) on benchmarking in the context of nuclear power plant decommissioning costs. The NEA's Decommissioning Cost Estimation Group (DCEG) benchmarking activity was conducted during 2017-2018, and the report is scheduled for publication by NEA during the first half of 2019. The DCEG's activity focuses on identifying possible benchmarking approaches and discussing their specific application to decommissioning costing, including the 'added value' in developing decommissioning cost benchmarking approaches. It includes consideration of prevailing barriers to the sharing of information and data required for decommissioning cost benchmarking, and explores a range of possible initiatives intended to facilitate implementation of benchmarking approaches in nuclear decommissioning costing (i.e. a possible 'road map' for implementation).
