The role of binder in non-clay ceramics extrusion processes is to provide plasticity for the forming process and green strength for better handling. Recently, an aqueous acrylic emulsion binder system for extruding alumina and other non-clay ceramics has been developed. The influence of binders on the mechanical properties of the extrudates and the burnout properties of the binders will be discussed.
