The ZrTiO{sub 4} powders were synthesized by thermal hydrolysis of ZrOCl{sub 2}-8H{sub 2}O and TiCl{sub 4} in the mixed solvent of 1-PrOH and water. The morphology of the powders was observed to be spherical and the mean particle diameter was in the range of 0.75 {mu}m. The thermal behavior analysis by XRD and TG/DTA showed that the precursor powders transformed into crystalline ZrTiO{sub 4} after calcination at about 600{degrees}C. The calcined powders retained their spherical shapes. Sinterability of the powders without any additives was examined. The density of the ZrTiO{sub 4} sintered at 1500{degrees}C for 3 h was more than 97% of the theoretical.
