The continued commercialization of new powder shape forming methods is dependent on solving process safety and economy issues, overcoming limitations with particular manufacturing technologies, and scaling up methods developed in the laboratory into viable manufacturing processes. These issues were addressed in a special panel discussion of industry experts as part of this symposium. Ceramic powder is a necessary ingredient for most advanced ceramic applications, with the total market estimated at $684 million in 1994, according to Business Communications Company. This market is expected o grow at an annual rate of 8.1% and reach almost $1.1 billion by 2000. The market for components and coatings made from such powders is expected to grow to $8.5 billion at an annual rate of 9.8% by 2000.
