Ceramic powders are a critical first step in the production of most advanced ceramic products. The synthesis of these powders has been an area of much interest to engineers and scientist in industry, academia, and government. Basic research is aimed at lowering powder production and shape-forming costs, improving powder properties, increasing product reliability and improving characterization techniques. To explore how technology derived from basic research in powder synthesis affects commercialization, a panel discussion at the technical session {open_quotes}Commercialization of Powder Synthesis and Shape-Forming Processes,{close_quotes} was held during the 97th ACerS Annual Meeting. This report presents an overview of this panel discussion.
