U-Mo/Al dispersion fuel is under development for the conversion of HEU-fuel using high-power research reactors to LEU fuel. One of challenges this fuel faces is large-size pore formation at the interfaces between the interaction layer (IL) and Al matrix. It is hypothesized that these pores are formed where the area is under a tensile stress that facilitates pore nucleation and growth. For a quantitative analysis with a simultaneous consideration of meat swelling and creep, ABAQUES finite element analysis (FEA) package was utilized to simulate five dispersion mini-plates with known creep rate constants for the U-Mo, IL and Al matrix. The FEA results are compared with measurement data for meat swelling and creep. (authors)
