Status of the Southeast, Central Midwest, and Appalachian Compacts Siting Projects

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:229860

This paper addresses the status of three low-level radioactive waste disposal facility site development projects in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. Each of these projects is an example of a different, challenging stage in the development of these facilities. The Illinois Project is at the stage of screening criteria development. The Pennsylvania Project is applying screening criteria for siting. The North Carolina Project is at the stage of responding to regulatory questions related to site characterization to support license application review. Chem-Nuclear Systems, Inc. (CNSI) is under contract with all three states to site, design, construct, operate, and close low-level radioactive waste disposal facilities.
