Addition of a heavy crude may facilitate pipelining of some waxy crudes

Conference ·
OSTI ID:229629
Experimental studies show that addition of a heavy crude into waxy crudes with low resin contents may make the pour point depressant treatment to the waxy crudes become more effective and more shear-resistant. Effectiveness of heat treatment to this kind of waxy crude may also be improved. Three typical curves of pour points of heavy-waxy crude blends versus heavy crude fraction are shown, and the pour point of a heavy-waxy crude blend may or may not be lower than that of the waxy crude. Variation o the blend viscosity with heavy crude fraction is also discussed.
