We have developed a novel common mode choke made of Fe-Si-Al powder core which exhibits relatively high permeability (μ{sub i}), up to 147, and high saturation magnetic induction (B{sub S}). A common mode choke made of Fe-Si-Al powder core exhibits good DC bias characteristics of common mode inductance because of the high B{sub S}. Furthermore, the common mode choke shows excellent impedance performance because of frequency stability of the μ{sub i}. It is concluded that relatively high permeability Fe-Si-Al powder core is suitable as a core material for common mode chokes in the work condition of big common mode currents and a wide frequency range (10 kHz–30 MHz).
