The formation of an electron bunch produced due to electron self-injection into a wake wave that is generated by a relativistic-intensity laser pulse propagating through a sharp boundary of semi-bounded plasma is studied in one-dimensional geometry. Analytical expressions are obtained for estimating the bunch length and the energy spread of electrons in the bunch. Numerical simulation is performed which confirms the results of analytical consideration. (paper)
