This paper opens with a review of failures in feedwater heaters. It discusses establishing axial positions and radial orientations of tube failures before plugging and recommends some ways to locate the damage. It suggests using records of tube and tube-to-tubesheet joint examinations and plugging to explore the patterns of failures and the possible mechanisms. It addresses reasons for plugging, illustrates several kinds of plugs and reviews their service suitability. It discusses the effects of plugging, and closes with descriptions of some plugging procedures.
