The book achieves globally the stated goal of providing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) students and practitioners with a well tailored exposition of the fundamental mathematical and numerical background pertinent to that application field. This is by no means an easy task, considering the wealth of material, fundamental and applied, that has been generated by the CFD community. Organizing and presenting that body of knowledge in a focused and coherent fashion is one of the several positive characteristics of this book. Indeed, filtering the vast mathematical literature, to provide the CFD field with the appropriate background, without the disciplinary approach which so often obscures the subject and often discourages the practitioner whose interests lie in the use of the tools rather than the development of the subject matter itself. In this regard, one notes one important omission (the work of Lapidus and Pinder) in an otherwise thorough literature survey.
