Title: Inflation and leptogenesis from right handed sneutrinos in supergravity

Abstract

We describe a supergravity model of inflation where the inflaton is identified with one linerar combination of two right handed sneutrino fields. The potential along the inflationary trajectory is flatter than that of massive chaotic inflation, resulting in a detectable but not ruled out tensor-to-scalar ratio r. In general, the potential for the two sneutrinos has complex phases. As a result, the two neutrinos can develop a nonvanishing lepton charge through a simple modification of the Affleck-Dine mechanism. • We present a model of chaotic inflation driven by the superpartner of the right-handed neutrino ([ital [tilde N]][sub [ital R]]). This model gives the correct magnitude of the density perturbation observed by the Cosmic Background Explorer satellite with a right-handed neutrino mass [congruent]10[sup 13] GeV, which is also preferred by the Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein solution to the solar neutrino problem. The reheating process is the dacay of the coherently oscillating [ital [tilde N]][sub [ital R]]. This decay process also generates lepton asymmetry via [ital CP] violation, which will be converted to baryon asymmetry thanks to the electroweak anomaly. This model can incorporatemore » the [tau]-neutrino mass [congruent]10 eV.« less
  • We consider an extension of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model by three right-handed neutrinos and a pair of neutrinophilic Higgs superfields. The small neutrino masses arise naturally from a small vacuum expectation value of the additional Higgs fields (hence without lepton number violation), while the lightest right-handed sneutrinos can constitute asymmetric Dark Matter. The right-handed sneutrino and baryon asymmetries are connected through equilibrium processes in the early universe, explaining the coincidence of the DM and baryon abundances. We show that particle physics and astrophysical constraints are satisfied.
  • We extend previous work on the minimal D-term inflation model modified by right-handed (RH) sneutrino fields to include additional inflaton-sector supergravity corrections and two-field inflation effects. We show that supergravity corrections simultaneously allow n{sub s} to be within 3-year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe limits and the cosmic string contribution to the cosmic microwave background (CMB) power spectrum to be less than 5%. For gauge coupling g{<=}1, the CMB contribution from cosmic strings is predicted to be at least 1% while the spectral index is predicted to be less than 0.968 for a CMB string contribution less than 5%. Treating themore » inflaton-RH sneutrino system as a two-field inflation model, we show that the time-dependence of the RH sneutrino field strongly modifies the single-field results for values of RH sneutrino mass m{sub {phi}}>0.1H. The running spectral index is {alpha}{approx_equal}-0.0002 when m{sub {phi}}<0.1H but increases to positive values as m{sub {phi}}/H increases, with {alpha}>0.008 for m{sub {phi}}>1.0H.« less
  • We discuss a D-term inflation scenario where a right-handed sneutrino can be an inflaton field leading to a viable inflation and leptogenesis, with a minimal form of Kaehler potential. The decay of an inflaton sneutrino can non-thermally create large enough lepton asymmetry. Its entropy production is also big enough to ameliorate the gravitino problem caused by too high a reheating temperature from the decay of a symmetry breaking field.
