Three Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb prealloyed compacts were successfully rolled into sheets with dimensions of 660x160x1.6., 600x190x2.0., and 660x150x1.6mm{sup 3}, respectively. The material used was prealloyed gas-atomized spherical powder of various mesh sizes. Rolling preforms were prepared by hot isostatically pressing the alloy powders into a plate shape at relatively low temperatures (1,000--1,300 C) to retain the fine powder particle microstructure. The rolling yield was close to 100 percent and no edge cracking was observed. Tensile properties were measured at room temperature and elevated temperatures. These demonstrated that good quality sheets of gamma titanium aluminide can be obtained via the prealloyed powder metallurgy route.
