Title: Relativistic description of pair production of doubly heavy baryons in e{sup +}e{sup −} annihilation

Abstract

Relativistic corrections in the pair production of S-wave doubly heavy diquarks in electron-positron annihilation were calculated on the basis of perturbative QCD and the quark model. The relativistic corrections to the wave functions for quark bound states were taken into account with the aid of the Breit potential in QCD. Relativistic effects change substantially the nonrelativistic cross sections for pair diquark production. The yield of pairs of (ccq) doubly heavy baryons at B factories was estimated.

  • On the basis of the perturbative QCD and the relativistic quark model we investigate the relativistic and bound state effects in the production processes of a pair of S-wave doubly heavy mesons consisting of b and c quarks. Relativistic factors in the production amplitude connected with the relative motion of heavy quarks and the transformation law of the bound state wave function to the reference frame of the moving pseudoscalar P- and vector V-mesons are taken into account. Relativistic corrections of the second order in the heavy quark relative momentum and bound state corrections proportional to the quark binding energiesmore » in the doubly heavy mesons are calculated in the production rates. We obtain an increase of the cross section for the reaction e{sup +}+e{sup -}{yields}J/{psi}+{eta}{sub c} due to the considered effects by a factor 2 divide 2.5 in the range of the center-of-mass energy {radical}(s)=6 divide 12 GeV.« less
  • Mass spectra and semileptonic decay rates of baryons consisting of two heavy (b or c) and one light quark are calculated in the framework of the relativistic quark model. The doubly heavy baryons are treated in the quark-diquark approximation. The ground and excited states of both the diquark and quark-diquark bound systems are considered. The quark-diquark potential is constructed. The light quark is treated completely relativistically, while the expansion in the inverse heavy-quark mass is used. The weak transition amplitudes of heavy diquarks bb and bc going, respectively, to bc and cc are explicitly expressed through the overlap integrals ofmore » the diquark wave functions in the whole accessible kinematic range. The relativistic baryon wave functions of the quark-diquark bound system are used for the calculation of the decay matrix elements, the Isgur-Wise function, and decay rates in the heavy-quark limit.« less

  • Baryons with a single heavy quark are being studied experimentally at present. Baryons with two units of heavy flavor will be abundantly produced not only at future colliders, but also at existing facilities. In this paper we study the production via heavy quark fragmentation of baryons containing two heavy quarks at the Fermilab Tevatron, the CERN LHC, DESY HERA, and the NLC. The production rate is woefully small at HERA and at the NLC, but significant at {ital pp} and {ital p{bar p}} machines. We present distributions in various kinematical variables in addition to the integrated cross sections at hadronmore » colliders. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}« less
  • The production of doubly heavy baryons in hadron-hadron collisions is considered. A method is proposed for decomposing the respective differential cross section into parts associated with contributions of various color-flux configurations.
