Title: Synthesis and crystal structure of a copper complex with (E)-2-(4-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)benzylidene)-3, 4-dihydronaphthalen-1(2H)-one ligand

Abstract

The title compound, C{sub 35}H{sub 23}CuF{sub 6}N{sub 3}O{sub 5}S{sub 2} (1), was synthesized by the reaction of Cu(tta){sub 2} and L{sup 1}, (L{sup 1} = (E)-2-(4-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)benzylidene)-3, 4-dihydronaphthalen-1(2H)-one) in the dichloromethane solution. It crystallizes in the monoclinic, space group P2{sub 1}/c with a = 33.8388(5), b = 9.3874(2), c = 21.8194(4) Å, β = 95.522(2), V = 6898.9(2) Å{sup 3}, Z = 8, D{sub x} = 1.554 Mg/m{sup 3}, F(000) = 3272, µ = 0.834 mm{sup –1}, R{sub 1} = 0.0639, wR{sub 2} = 0.1637. The copper(II) ion of 1 is in a distorted square-pyramidal environment with four O atoms of the two tta ligands and one N atom of triazole ligand L{sup 1}. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction data revealed that the hydrogen bonds, weak C–H···π and π···π interactions in the crystals link the coordination units to form 3D supramolecular structures.

  • A dinuclear Ln[sup III]-Cu[sup II] complex with an unusual 2-methyl-2,4,6-tris(trifluoromethyl)-1,3-dioxane-4,6-diolato ligand has been synthesized and characterized structurally. The 1,3-dioxane-4,6-diolato ligand is the product of cycloaddition of 1,1,1-trifluoro-2,2-propanediol to a hexafluoroacetylacetonato ligand promoted by the metal complex.
  • The synthesis and X-ray diffraction study of three Ca[CuX(Nta)] . 2H{sub 2}O complexes, where X = Cl (I) or Br (II and III are the monoclinic and orthorhombic modifications, respectively), are performed. Structures I-III are built of [CuX(Nta)]{sup 2-} anionic complexes and hydrated Ca{sup 2+} cations, which are linked by Ca-O bonds into a three-dimensional framework. In I-III, the coordination of the Cu atom includes the N atom and three O atoms of the tetradentate chelate Nta{sup 3-} ligand and the X{sup -} anion in the trans position with respect to N. The Cu-O bond lengths vary in the rangesmore » 1.971-2.268 A in I, 1.958-2.289 A in II, and 2.040-2.110 A in III. The Cu-X bond lengths are 2.223, 2.364, and 2.354 A in I, II, and III, respectively. In I and II, the coordination polyhedron of the Cu atom is approximated by a distorted square pyramid with an O atom at the apical vertex, whereas in III, the polyhedron is described as a distorted trigonal bipyramid with the N and Br atoms at the axial sites. The structures are additionally stabilized by O(w)-H-O and O(w)-H-X hydrogen bonds.« less
  • The synthesis and characterization of two [Ru(L)(O)(trpy)](ClO{sub 4}){sub 2} complexes (where trpy = 2,2{prime}:6{prime},2{double_prime}-terpyridine and L=(S)- or (R)-bpop = 2,2-bis[2-[4(S)- or 4(R)-phenyl-1,3-oxazolinyl]]propane) are described. These complexes are among the first high oxidation state oxoruthenium complexes which contain an optically active ligand fixed in a position cis to the oxo moiety. The preparations of the precursor materials, [Ru(L)(Cl)(trpy)]- (BF{sub 4}) and [Ru(H{sub 2}O)(L)(trpy)](BF{sub 4})2, are also described. A single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of [Ru((S)-bpop)(Cl)(trpy)](BF{sub 4}) was undertaken. The crystals belong to the monoclinic system, space group P2{sub 1}, with a = 12.1507(16) {Angstrom}, b=12.3633(10) {Angstrom}, c=12.4606 (14) {Angstrom},{beta}=113.332(9){degrees}, V=171839(3) {Angstrom}{sup 3},more » and Z=2. The structure was solved and refined to R=2.28% and R{sub w}=2.98% for all 6085 independent reflections. (R=1.99% for those 5680 reflections with F{sub o}>6{sigma}(F{sub o}).) This is the first report of a (bis(oxazoline)) ruthenium single-crystal X-ray structural analysis. To establish the viability of these complexes for ligand effect studies, the pK{sub a} value of the bpop ligand was measured along with the rate constant for the ligand substitution of the aqua ligand of [Ru(H{sub 2}O)((R)-bpop)(trpy)](ClO{sub 4})2 by acetonitrile. The authors` initial substrate oxidation studies of these new (bis-(oxazoline))oxoruthenium(IV) complexes with methyl p-tolyl sulfide or racemic methyl p-tolyl sulfoxide yield results consistent with previous mechanistic studies on sulfide and sulfoxide oxidations with oxo(phosphine)-ruthenium (IV) complexes.« less
  • The title complex, [VO{sub 2}(C{sub 6}H{sub 5}C(O)CHC(CH{sub 3})NNC(O)CH{sub 2}(NC{sub 5}H{sub 5}))]{center_dot}C{sub 2}H{sub 5}OH, was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopy. Yellow crystals of the complex are monoclinic, space group P2{sub 1}/a with a = 10.690(2), b = 16.008(3), c = 13.164(4){Angstrom}, {beta} = 107.03(2){degrees}, V = 2153.9(18){Angstrom}{sup 3}, F(000) = 880 and Dc = 1.305 g cm{sup -3} for Z =4. X-ray structure analysis shows that the vanadium coordination number is five and the coordination polyhedron is a distorted trigonal bipyramid.
