EPR study of the stage of initiation of polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene by irradiated perfluoropelargonic acid

Journal Article · · High Energy Chemistry
OSTI ID:224077

The paramagnetic centers formed during radiolysis of perfluoropelargonic acid (PA), tetrafluoroethylene (TFE), and mixtures of them at 77 K and the kinetics of their quenching in heating to 300 K were investigated by EPR. It was shown that active sites stabilized on PA initiate polymerization of TFE. The changes in the EPR spectra caused by polymerization of TFE are not observed. It was hypothesized that radical ions are such active sites. 2 refs., 2 figs.
