Combined Function Magnets for the Fermilab PIP-II Booster Upgrade

Conference ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/2204977· OSTI ID:2204977

The Proton Improvement Plan II (PIP-II) is an enhancement to the Fermilab accelerator complex enabling a high intensity proton beam to support the laboratory’s experiments. The heart of PIP-II is a superconducting linac which will increase the injection energy in the booster from the existing 400 MeV to 800 MeV. To make room for the modified injection into the booster, two shorter defocusing gradient magnets have been designed. Two wide aperture defocusing gradient magnets have also been designed to go on either side of the extraction septa to reduce extractions losses.
