Rehabilitating gates on old dams can be a challenge. In planning for a cost-effective rehabilitation, the benefits of repairing versus replacing the aged concrete and steel components must be carefully evaluated. This paper presents the inspection results and rehabilitation decisions for three gates on a gated spillway built in the 1900s. The activities were to verify that the gates will fully open, rehabilitate the gate components, remove or encapsulate lead-based paint, and prevent and remove ice buildup.
