Concurrent hydroacoustic monitoring and full tailrace netting to estimate fish entrainment were conducted at two low head hydroelectric stations in Wisconsin. Twenty-two, 24 hour long coincident samples were collected at one power station and 38 similar samples were collected at the other over a one year period. Analyses of the data comparing the two techniques clearly demonstrated that similar estimates of annual entrainment rates could be obtained using either technique at these sites. However, before one technique or the other is chosen for use at a given location, a careful evaluation of site conditions should be conducted to ensure that data gathering capabilities are not limited by site specific factors.
