In our studies, we analyzed eight different cervical cell lines, including two human papilloma virus (HPV)-negative cell lines, for rearrangements on chromosome 11. A number of approaches including RFLP, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE), karyotyping, and FISH with 11 painting and 11q13-specific probes were used. Rearrangement of 11q13 sequences, translocation in two (HeLa and CasKi), deletion in one (SiHa), and translocation and deletion in one (C33A) were observed. One other cell line (HT3) showed rearrangement in PFGE gels. Metaphase spreads were not available for FISH studies on this cell line. Thus, 11q13 rearrangement was a nonrandom event. 8 refs.
