This paper is devoted to the study of confinement properties of the l=3 heliotron/torsatron magnetic system in comparison with l=2 systems. The results of the computations of the l=3 system are presented for two cases. The sets of parameters for these two cases are shown. These systems differ from each other with the value of aspect ratios. In the first case the aspect ratio of the helical winding is equal to 6, while in the second case the aspect ratio of the helical winding is equal to 4. However the inclination of the helical winding in two systems is the same, i.e., ma{sub h}/lR=1 and the modulation coefficient equal to the inverse aspect ratio. Results show that: The flexibility of the magnetic configuration in l=3 helical system is similar to the flexibility of l=2 helical system (LHD) when it has three pairs of vertical field coils; Under a strong electric field the loss cone ratio for five types of configurations in l=2 helical system (LHD) do not differ from each other remarkably, while for l=3 systems (FFHR), the loss cone ratio for the case of m=12 is considerably larger than that for m=18. In l=3 systems mostly the untrapped particle losses occur, while the l=2 system produces mostly helical trapped particle losses, also being highly localized. 9 refs., 6 figs., 1 tab.
