Proceedings: 1994 fuel oil utilization workshop

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:219341
EPRI sponsors the annual Fuel Oil Utilization Workshop to provide its electric-utility members with an opportunity to exchange current information and experiences regarding the utilization of fuel oil. The primary objective of the workshop is to utilize the experiences of utility personnel and industry representatives by continuing the interchange of information related to fuel oil issues. An added benefit of the workshop is the identification of problems or matters in which EPRI might best direct future efforts in research and development. Another focus is the improvement of oil-fired steam generating system performance. Speakers presented fuel oil projects conducted at their utilities, important new technologies and issues in the utilization and storage of fuel oil, studies conducted or currently in the process of being completed, and information on current and future regulations affecting fuel oil utilization. The topics of the 1994 workshop included tests of a combustion promoter, a model used to evaluate benefits of burning lower quality fuel oils, in-line blending of residual fuel oils, reducing NO{sub x} using computer-based optimization, volatile organic emissions from oil storage tanks, cost-effective oil tank cleaning, trace substance air pollutant test results and implications for residual fuel oil, reduced NO{sub x} emissions using low-cost burner hardware, utilization of low-API gravity oils, and various experiences in connection with using Orimulsion{trademark} as an electric utility fuel. Selected papers are indexed separately for inclusion in the Energy Science and Technology Database.
