Brief: A novel approach to initiating multilateral horizontal wells

This paper describes a system for orienting and cementing precut window sections in a typical production casing string that provides a positive method for positioning and orienting a retrievable whipstock. This design does not have the capability to tie back or cement liners conveniently in individual lateral wellbores but is well suited for application in medium- and short-radius, horizontal, multilateral wells where borehole stability or zonal isolation are not issues.
