Operators, encouraged by the profit-promoting successes of improved directional drilling and 3-D seismic imaging, are poised to embrace multilateral drilling and completion as they did horizontal technologies. And service companies appear ready to oblige them with the technological advances operators demand. This paper reviews the existing uses of multilateral wells, the equipment, and installation techniques along with the identified problems with these methods.
