Deactivating factors and mechanism of PtRe/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} and PtSn/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}. Catalysts in Start-of-run of catalytic reforming unit were systematically investigated, for example, temperature, concentration of water and oxygen, contents and components of hydrocarbons etc. during dehydration and reduction of catalyst. It was found that oxygen and hydrocarbons in presence in nitrogen during dehydration were the most important factors to the practical activity of the catalyst. A call amount of hydrocarbons in nitrogen would make visible deactivation. Oxygen in gas might protect catalyst from water and hydrocarbons during exsiccation. Even with concentration of water up to 46000 ppm, the dehydrogenation activity and platinum dispersion of catalyst still kept constant although chlorine content became very low. The deactivating mechanism is discussed in the paper.
