CoMo and NiMo of different contents Co or Ni and Ru-CoMo/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} catalysts were examined for the hydrodesulfurization of refractory sulfur compound 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene (4,6-DMDBT) in decane or decane with naphthalene to find a selective catalysts which desulfurization of 4,6-DMDBT in the presence of naphthalene, and characterization of Ru-CoMo/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} using XPS, XRD and HREM in order to desing the higher selective HDS catalyst. Ru-CoMo/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} exhibited the higher HDS activity in decane, and retardation of naphthalene was minimum of all catalysts.
