Gasification reactivities of solid biomass fuels

Conference ·
OSTI ID:214731
The objective of this study is to create fundamental data to support the development of new advanced power production systems based on pressurized gasification of biomass. The characteristic gasification reactivities of 10 different biomasses were measured isothermally with the pressurized thermobalance as a function of temperature (range 700{degrees}-900{degrees}C), pressure (range 1-30 bar) and gas composition(CO{sub 2}, H{sub 2}O, and their mixtures with CO and H{sub 2}). The pyrolysis took place in the reaction conditions in the thermobalance whilst the sample was lowered down to the reactor. Correlations of the reactivity with the properties of the biomasses are given, especially with the content of catalytically active elements such as K, Na, Ca etc., and with their deactivation behaviour such as sintering etc. In addition, the carbon conversion data obtained in pressurized fluidized-bed gasification tests with 4 different biomasses are compared with the reactivity data obtained in the thermobalance measurements.
