Lean NO{sub x} reduction over alumina-supported oxides
- Northwestern Univ., Evanston, IL (United States)
Several metal oxides have been found to be effective for lean NO{sub x} reduction with hydrocarbons. Since metal oxides exist in thermodynamically stable forms, these catalysts may be more suitable than zeolites for practical lean NO{sub x} reduction applications. One very effective metal oxide for this reaction is Cu-Ga{sub 2}O{sub 3}. The effect of supporting Cu-Ga{sub 2}O{sub 3} on Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} was investigated by comparing the physical properties and lean NO{sub x} reduction abilities of the supported and unsupported catalysts. In addition, the dependence of the lean NO{sub x} reduction behavior of Cu-Ga/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}, on the preparation method and Cu content was investigated. Besides Cu-Ga/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}, Cu/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} catalysts were studied for the purpose of determining the role of Ga in Cu-Ga/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}, and the behavior of Ag-Ga/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} catalysts was investigated to provide a comparison for the Cu-Ga/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} system.
