Three field volatility studies were conducted in California to measure the time-variant vapor flux density of 1,3-dichloropropene following application to large plots. About 12 gallons per acre of Telone II soil fumigant were injected at about the 18 inch soil depth. Two of the studies were broadcast treatments, and the third a row treatment. Soil texture ranged from sandy loam to clay loam among the studies. The studies showed that the 1,3-dichloropropene flux profile exhibits a lag period followed by a distinct diurnal pattern of emission. Off-site receptors and ISCST modeling was used to validate source-strength values determined by the aerodynamic method.
