The MINOS Near Detector has recorded over 20 million neutrino interactions since the experiment began taking NuMI beam data in March 2005. At neutrino energies around the peak of the NuMI flux ({approx}3 GeV) one of the dominant interaction modes is charged-current quasi-elastic (CCQE) scattering and the high statistics Near Detector dataset allows for measurements of the characteristics of this process. A CCQE-enriched event sample is defined and the data collected during the first year of NuMI beam operation are compared to the prediction from the MINOS Monte Carlo simulation (MC). To better describe the data, fits are performed to extract values for a number of parameters in the MC including a low Q{sup 2} suppression parameter for CCQE events and the axial-vector mass, M{sub A}, for CCQE scattering.
