Compton scattering vertex for massive scalar QED
Abstract
We investigate the Compton scattering vertex of charged scalars and photons in scalar quantum electrodynamics (SQED). We carry out its nonperturbative construction consistent with WardFradkinGreenTakahashi identity which relates 3point vertices to the 4point ones. There is an undetermined part which is transverse to one or both the external photons, and needs to be evaluated through perturbation theory. We present in detail how the transverse part at the 1loop order can be evaluated for completely general kinematics of momenta involved in covariant gauges and dimensions. This involves the calculation of genuine 4point functions with three massive propagators, the most nontrivial integrals reported in this paper. We also discuss possible applications of our results.

Helicity selection rules in the Born approximation to Compton scattering of massive spin1 particles on massless fermions
The helicity amplitudes for the reaction G+q..> gamma..+q, where the gluon G and photon have virtual masses, and where the quarks are massless, are studied. A remarkably simple picture is found to describe the reaction in the Born approximation. Despite the fact that there are three distinct polarization vectors, the transition matrix remains twodimensional, provided the reaction takes place on a polarized quark. This simplification is achieved by introducing a nonorthogonal basis for the massive gluon and photon states. An interesting aspect is that one particular gluon polarization state cannot produce photons, while a certain massive photon polarization state cannotmore »
RADIATION CORRECTIONS TO PARTICLE SCATTERING IN EXTERNAL FIELD AND TO COMPTON EFFECT IN SCALAR QUANTUM ELECTRODYNAMICS
The expression for the singlephoton mass operator of a scalar particle was used to calculate the radiation corrections to the Compton effect and to the scattering of a scalar particle in an external electromagnetic field. The expressions obtained for the differential cross section are given. (J.S.R.)
Active helium target: Neutron scalar polarizability extraction via Compton scattering
Precise measurement of the neutron scalar polarizabilities has been a lasting challenge because of the lack of a freeneutron target. Led by the University of Glasgow and the Mount Allison University groups of the A2 collaboration in Mainz, Germany, preparations have begun to test a recent theoretical model with an active helium target with the hope of determining these elusive quantities with small statistical, systematic, and modeldependent errors. Apparatus testing and backgroundevent simulations have been carried out, with the full experiment projected to run in 2015. Once determined, these values can be applied to help understand quantum chromodynamics in themore »
