The concept of nanophase ceramics has been successfully applied to the preparation of microporous membranes. According to literature this new class of materials results from the emphasis of some new ceramic processes like the condensation of gaseous atomic clusters or the sol-gel process. In this work recent developments in sol-gel chemistry of metal alkoxides have been used to prepare microporous zirconia and titania membranes. Two different chemical ways have been investigated with the aim of producing micropores through sintering of a nanophase ceramics.
