Flip-flop type transition between glow discharges and arc discharges (FFTGA) and continuous transition from glow discharge to arc discharge (CTGA) for tungsten electrodes

Conference ·
OSTI ID:212837

FFTGA are the Phenomena that alternatively repeat the transition from glow (discharge) to arc (discharge) and from arc to glow at constant current. These transition time are gone rapidly for a micro sec. On FFTGA, glow discharge rate (Pg), life time of glows and arcs (<>, <>), etc. ware measured on tungsten electrodes in high pressure helium. Tungsten electrodes have the highest melting Point (3,400 C) in many electrode materials. In the other hand, when the discharge current is 350 mA above, it happened that slow continuous transition from glow to arc was shown.
