Status of the LOREX: Geochemical {sup 205}Tl solar neutrino experiment
- Institute of Nuclear Sciences Vinca, Pob 522, 11001 Belgrade (Yugoslavia)
The LOREX-{sup 205}Tl solar neutrino experiment is designed to measure the solar neutrino flux integrated over the last few million of years using lorandite (TlAsS{sub 2}) minerals from Allchar mine (Macedonia), by measuring the {sup 205}Pb content resulting from neutrino capture in {sup 205}Tl. The mean depth of the sample has to be determined by measuring the depth dependent cosmic ray induced production of isotopes {sup 10}Be, {sup 26}Al, {sup 36}Cl and {sup 53}Mn to evaluate the background {sup 205}Pb contributions. The basic idea is to accelerate the beams of above isotopes to energies required to obtain the fully stripped ions and separate them employing the resulting difference in q/m ratios.
