The HERA-B experiment is a forward magnetic spectrometer with good particle identification for hadrons and leptons designed to study violation of CP symmetry in the neutral B meson system. Pairs of bb-bar quarks are produced in collisions of 920 GeV/c protons of the Hera storage ring at DESY, Hamburg, with internal wire targets. Large parts of the detector are already assembled and radiation hard tracking chambers are expected to be installed in summer and fall of 1999. The current status and recent developments in the detector design are reviewed.
