A simple form for phenomenological nuclear potential is introduced as an alternative to the popular Woods-Saxon (WS) form. In contrast to the WS form the new form becomes exactly zero at a finite distance and all derivatives of this form are continuous everywhere. The sequence of the single-particle levels of a WS potential with realistic parameters can be reproduced reasonably well with the new potential in which even the positions of the broad resonances are free from uncertainties.
