The reaction {pi}{sup -}p{yields}{eta}{pi} deg. n has been studied at 32, 38 and 100 GeV/c {pi}{sup -} beam momenta with the GAMS experimental setups. A partial wave analysis has been performed in the effective mass range 0.77{<=}M{sub {eta}}{sub {pi}}{sub deg.} <1.82 GeV/c{sup 2}. A peak in the D{sub +} wave, attributed to a{sub 2}, is clearly seen. The phase difference between D{sub +} and P{sub +} waves changes rapidly in the a{sub 2} region. A significant P{sub +} wave contribution is observed at the a{sub 2} mass and above but it does not show a clear resonant behaviour. No considerable contribution of the unnatural parity exchange waves is observed, exception being made for the S and D{sub 0} waves in the a{sub 0} and a{sub 2} mass regions respectively.
