Control strategy for cooled ceiling panels
- Sulzer Infra Lab., Winterthur (Switzerland)
Water-cooled ceiling panels are mostly used in office buildings. They are generally connected with thermally comfortable conditions. The main factor for heat exchange is radiation. A new control strategy for cooled ceiling panels has been developed. With this control strategy it is possible to use the cooled ceiling panels not only during working hours when an internal load is present, but also at night. With night cooling, it is possible to use the thermal mass of the building for energy storage. Night cooling helps to reduce the peak load during working hours. It makes it possible to produce part of the cold water at lower outside temperatures and when the costs for electricity are lower. For some examples, the effect of night cooling has been calculated with a simulation program. The control strategy is based on a simple physical model. A formula has to be programmed into the normal control unit.
