Production and storage of ground state O{sup 2+} and charge transfer of O{sup 2+} with neutrals at eV energies

The 2p{sup 2} {sup 3}P ground state O{sup 2+} ions were produced from solid iron oxide targets by laser ablation and stored in a rf ion trap. By using this technique, we measured charge transfer rate coefficients between the ground state O{sup 2+} ion (at mean energy of about 2.5 eV or 2x10{sup 4} K) and neutrals (He, H2, N2 and CO)
