Two-photon microwave spectroscopy and the double Stark resonance in Rydberg atoms are considered to resolve the problem of probing and calibration of weak static electric fields in vacuum and plasma. The possibilities of using the optical double Stark resonance included highly excited states for investigation of weak electric fields with high spatial resolution is discussed.
