The high demand for neutron radiography of both irradiated and non-irradiated reactor structural and fuel specimens resulted in the decision to install a neutron radiography facility in the Hot Fuel Examination Facility/ North (HFEF/N) at Argonne National Laboratory's Idaho site. The neutron radiography facility has been designed to have a high throughput using state-of-the-art radiography techniques with maximum flexibility for incorporating radiography techniques that may be developed in the future. The facility has provisions for three neutron radiography stations, although only one will be activated at the present time. The facility is being designed for a thermal neutron flux of 10{sup 6} n/cm{sup 2}-sec at the film plane with a collimator ratio of 300:1. The design of this facility with the ability to radiograph a wide variety of irradiated and non-irradiated reactor structural and fuel specimens, the ability to remotely change aperture ratios and replace beam filter and shaping materials, the flexibility to accommodate new and as yet undeveloped radiography methods, and the sole use of a reactor for neutron radiography make it one of the more advanced systems in the nuclear industry.
