NRAD reactor control console modifications
- Argonne National Laboratory-West, West Idaho Falls, ID (United States)
Argonne National Laboratory's newest reactor is a steady-state 250-KW TRIGA-FLIP-fueled reactor. This reactor is the heart of the Neutron Radiography Facility (NRAD) at the Hot Fuel Examination Facility/North (HFEF/N) and is operated solely for the purpose of neutron radiography. The basic components of the NRAD reactor including the fuel, control-rod drives, and instrumentation and control console have been relocated from the Puerto Rico Nuclear Center (PRNC) at Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. This report defines the necessary modifications that were made to the reactor control console in converting the reactor from one with pulsed, square wave, and 2-MW steady state operational capabilities to one with a 250-KW steady state operational capability.
