EMMA stands for Electron Model of Muon Accelerator and is expected to demonstrate that a nonscaling FFAG can accelerate a beam quickly with large acceptance in both transverse and longitudinal directions, that is necessary for muon acceleration. We will study resonance crossing and outside bucket acceleration in detail. The concept of EMMA has been considered and designed over the last several years. Recently the project was funded and construction started at the STFC Daresbury Laboratory in April 2007. The first beam should be in the ring in summer 2009. We will discuss its backgrounds and aims, beam dynamics issues, and current hardware status.
