This paper briefly presents the results of preliminary experiments using iron ferrate(VI) to oxidize ammonia in waste water. Reaction rate constants were determined as a function of pH (7.5 to 11.0). The temperature effect on the reaction of ferrate (VI) with ammonia was studied at pH 9.0. Graphical results are presented. At pH 9.0, nitrite and nitrate ions were identified as the products of the reaction. Results indicated that ammonia was removed in significant amount.
