Title: Present Status of MIRRORCLE-20 for MIR and FIR Beam Lines

Abstract

The tabletop synchrotron MIRRORCLE-20 is optimized as MIR and FIR beam source for the life science research. To collect the whole radiation, we have installed a magic mirror and a circular mirror within MIRRORCLE-20. There are two application beam lines in MIRRORCLE-20. One is mid IR beam line, and another is far IR beam line. We have grating spectrometer and cooled MCT detector for MIR, and FT-TR and cooled silicon bolometer for FIR. According to the specification of MIRRORCLE-20, the e-beam current is 80mA, the pulse width is 0.1 msec, the peak storage current is 2.4A, and the repetition is 100Hz. The MIR power measured with MCT detector and thermopile is found to be about 50 mW.

To collect the radiation from whole arc of the orbit, there is a magic mirror and a circular mirror installed within MIRRORCLE-20. There is an FT-IR and a cooled silicon bolometer for FIR. According to the specification of MIRRORCLE-20, the e-beam current is 100mA, the pulse width is 0.1msec, the peak storage current is 3A and the repetition is 100Hz. The power of MIR (wavelength shorter than 50{mu}m) measured by thermopile is about 59mW and that of FIR (wavelength longer than 50{mu}m) estimatedmore » by theoretical spectrum is about 8.5mW.« less
  • A beam line for far infrared spectroscopy using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR) has been developed as a facility of tabletop synchrotron MIRRORCLE 20 in Ritsumeikan University and has been utilized to study liquid structure through analysis of intermolecular vibration in aqueous solutions. We report recent developments in the system and the examples of measured spectra.
  • Far infrared vibrational Spectroscopy for distilled water was performed by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) in the FTIR beam line of MIRRORCLE 20. Synchrotron radiation was utilized as a light source for the absorption Spectroscopy in the frequency range from 100cm-1 to 20cm-1. Off-line measurements by black body radiation of ceramic heater were also examined in the range from 400cm-1 to 50cm-1. Wide range spectrum was obtained after the SR data merged the off-line data. We report the recent development in the beam line and the examples of spectra related to the water structure.
  • The utilization of a sequence band CO/sub 2/ laser as the pumping source for new FIR laser lines of CH/sub 3/OH is discussed.
  • The present status of research into electron-beam-controlled (EB) discharge lasers is discussed, and main trends in future developments are indicated. Pulsed and CW high-power EB CO/sub 2/ lasers are described, and improvements on the design systems and pumping regimes are reviewed. The construction and investigation of EB lasers with new active media are also discussed, and the stability nonautonomous discharge excited by the EB method is studied, including the use of EB discharge to stimulate chemical reactions.
