The use of ammonium perchlorate (AP) as an oxidizer in solid rocket engine propellant mixtures has resulted in the contamination of soil and water. The Perchlorate Study Group, a consortium of government and industry scientists, has designed a study to evaluate toxicity effects of AP. The US Environmental Protection Agency has indicated a willingness to reevaluate its provisional reference dose. The study is briefly outlined in this paper.
