Continuum study of quark-number susceptibility in an effective interaction model
- Department of Physics, Nanjing University, Nanjing 210093 (China)
In the approximation of neglecting the flavor mixing between u and d quarks in the vector channel, we derive a formula for the quark-number susceptibility based on the external field method. This formula proves to yield exactly the Fermi statistics result of the quark-number susceptibility in the noninteracting situation. Then calculation in an effective interaction model via Dyson-Schwinger equations is performed and it is found that at low temperatures it is zero and it rises sharply to nonzero values across the phase transition point, which is consistent with previous lattice QCD results. The interpretation of this behavior of the quark-number susceptibility as a signal of chiral symmetry restoration and deconfinement is discussed.
