This paper summarizes previous work using sonification to assist in the extraction of semivolatile organic contaminants from soil, and the extrapolation of sonochemistry techniques for groundwater monitoring methods. Possible applications of ultrasound monitoring, in combination with various remediation technologies, are discussed. Current work deals with identifying and characterizing various aqueous solution parameters that can affect the rate of ion formation in the sonochemistry of pollutants.
