The hydrothermal synthesis, X-ray single crystal structure, and some properties of BaVO(PO{sub 4})(H{sub 2}PO{sub 4}){center_dot}H{sub 2}O are described. BaVO(PO{sub 4})(H{sub 2}PO{sub 4}){center_dot}H{sub 2}O is built up from VO{sub 6} and (H{sub 2})PO{sub 4} groups, linked via V-O-P bonds, into anionic VO(PO{sub 4})(H{sub 2}PO{sub 4}) layers. The 9-coordinate Ba{sup 2+} cations and water molecules provide the interlayer packing between the V/P/O/H sheets, Magnetic susceptibility measurements on BaVO(PO{sub 4})(H{sub 2}PO{sub 4}){center_dot}H{sub 2}O show perfect Curie-Weiss paramagnetism down to 4 K. Powder X-ray, TGA, and IR data for BaVO(PO{sub 4})(H{sub 2}PO{sub 4}){center_dot}H{sub 2}O are also presented. Crystal data: BaVO(PO{sub 4})(H{sub 2}PO{sub 4}){center_dot}H{sub 2}O, M= 414.24, monoclinic, space group P2{sub 1}/n (no. 14), a = 10.848 (3) {Angstrom}, b = 6.408 (3) {Angstrom}, c= 11.376(2) {Angstrom}, {beta} = 102.32(2) {degrees}, V= 773(2) {Angstrom}{sup 3}, Z = 4, R(F) = 2.24%, R{sub w}(F) = 2.42% [141 parameters; 2103 reflections with I > 3{sigma} (I)].
